celebrating february

I have some sad news.  We missed a holiday!  I was shocked to discover that we forgot to celebrate La Fête de Chandleur on February 2nd.  Chandleur (Candlemas) takes place 40 days after Christmas and is celebrated by the lighting and blessing of candles.  It is also celebrated by the making and eating of crepes.  How in the world did we let a crepe-centric holiday pass us by?  To make up for it, we celebrated World Nutella Day instead, which, incidentally, is celebrated on February 5th.  On World Nutella Day, we ate nutella crepes at our favorite crepe stand  (Esmeralda) across the street from Notre Dame.  I've decided that we'll celebrate Chandleur beginning next year.  I'm going to officially insert it into our regular holiday rotation.

There is no Groundhog Day in France.  Instead, I have read that for Chandleur, the crepe, which is round like the sun, symbolizes the coming of Spring.  So, from now on, if you happen to visit with us on February 2nd, it will be a double-dip holiday!

Another thing we missed was the Chinese New Year parades in Paris.  They took place Sunday.  I am totally bummed becaus normally we would have been in Paris on a Sunday, but we went there like 5 times last week and on Sunday morning we decided to lay low and stay in Gif.  What a bummer.  To make up for that, I am going to find out where we can have Dim Sum in Paris for French Wednesday next week.  I've heard that Chine Massena is good.
my second favorite holiday
I am totally motivated to not miss Valentine's Day this year.  It's one of my favorites.  April Fools is my all time favorite.  To get you all in the mood for the big day, here are some pictures of people I've caught kissing in Paris.  Everytime I see someone kissing, I take a picture.  Sometimes, I just miss it, and I'm including those pictures as well. When I took the last photo, Uncle Genne said, "Too bad that's his sister!"

à bientôt!

Thanks for the post and for the phots....they really made me smile. There sure is a lot of kissing going in there! What would be really bad is if you caught someone kissing someone they weren't supposed to be kissing! :o

Hey Heather, Lil Jesse corrected me when I called it Chinese New Year. Jesse's girl friend is vietnamese and they call it "lunar new year." If I'm not mistaken, I believe Korea and of course China have the same calendar celebration.

What??!! How the heck did we miss World Nutella Day? Dennis buys me Nutella everytime he's at the store, there's six bottles of Nutella in our cupboard. Which has NOT contributed to any pregnancy weight loss whatsoever.
