over the rainbow?

For some extremely bizarre reason, "Over the Rainbow" by Israel Kamakawiwo'Ole is in the TOP 10 on the radio here in France.  Um, didn't that song come out in 1993?  That's 18 years ago.  That song is literally old enough to enroll at UCLA.

Speaking of the University of California, my Uncle Genne and Auntie Bernadette (both Cal grads) are visiting with us this week.  They stayed with us for a few days and then got a really swanky apartment near the actual Moulin Rouge, and right around the corner from the best quiche shop in Paris.  Their apartment came with a Mac computer, two TVs and an elevated bed that descends when you want to sleep on it (sort of a modern Murphy Bed).

Soon after we arrived in France, I bought these place mats with a map of Paris attractions.  Our goal is to visit each of the sites featured on the place mats.

Oh the places we'll go!
My aunt and uncle have been to Paris several times so when we go sightseeing with them, we usually see something new.  This week on French Wednesday, we met them at the Grande Arche/La Defense where there is really great shopping.  More importantly, we were able to check that location off the map (see top left of place mat)!

While at la Defense, we found a TOYS 'R US!  Check out the cool Lego sculptures they have in Paris!

On an entirely different topic, Gaius told me that "fancy girls in France" put cucumber on their dog's eyes.  Like this:

Yes, Gaius is picking up some pretty refined habits.  Check out his wine tasting technique!
If you listen closely to this video, you will hear Christopher talking about Punahou  School, which is President Obama's alma mater in Hawaii, and incidentally, Hawaii is where Israel Kamakawiwo'Ole was from.  Nice book ends, eh?

à bientôt!
