It's day 3 of our French adventure. I think Christopher may not be having a good day. I woke up this morning to him saying, "Oh my god! It's 8:45!" Which would be a bad thing since our rental car was due at 8:15 a.m., and if you are more than two hours late returning it, they charge you for an extra day. We learned that yesterday. So we were supposed to be really motivated to return this big car and exchange it for a little car today.
So, I had a mini heart attack, got up, looked at the clock. "It's not 8:45 (called him a name). It's 6:45. Thanks for waking me up!"
Well, the last I heard from Christopher, he was driving the wrong way down a one way street and I think he may have mentioned the police. That was maybe an hour ago. I hope he's okay!
So, we made it here in one piece two days ago. Our first day in France was fantastic! We were able to navigate our way home from Charles de Gaulle Airport and felt very proud of ourselves. When we arrived at our new home in Gif-sur-Yvette, it was super clean and looks EXACTLY like the pictures I posted earlier. Our home is the ground level of a duplex. Gaius has a little yard to play in right outside his bedroom. We have a large patio for dining right outside the kitchen door. My kitchen is fully loaded, complete with a broken coffee maker! I'm not really complaining. That is the only thing wrong in the kitchen. The "frigo" is as big as any in the U.S. Madame Quintard (our landlady) is buying us a new microwave today.
UPDATE: Christopher just got home from the rental car place. In his words, "The police descended on me like bees on honey." Once he discovered he was going the wrong way, he pulled into the first driveway he could find. It happened to be a police station, with four cops watching him talking on the phone, driving the wrong way down a one way street. Luckily, he didn't get a ticket! And, the police pointed him in the right direction and he was finally on his way home.
I'll have to write more about our adventures at the grocery store and my birthday in Paris later. A bientot!

Since I am envious of your opportunity to live in Paris, I will be a keen reader of our blog, enabling me to live vicariously through your family's experiences. Great idea starting a blog! Stephen Bush
Thank you, Stephen. I noticed that you and Christopher are now friends on Facebook. We both really enjoyed reading your list of albums. But Christopher wants to know why American Beauty didn't make your list.
that's a hilarious story about christopher:-)
...although i'm sure at the time, it was more stressful than anything else. it's a great feeling to successfully make it to your end destination in a foreign country that drives on the opposite side of the road as the US! - teri (your cousin)
